The Easy Star All Stars is a collective of Brooklyn-based reggae musicians. The various band members have shared stage and studio with legends like Gil-Scott Heron, Burning Spear, The Toasters, Dennis Brown, MC Solaar, Bernie Worrell and Monty Alexander. Enough street cred? Absolutely.
The crew is no longer just the studio band for the label Easy Star, the company know for inventive reggae and dub with a slight twist. They are an special kind of band. The right word for a band whose dub versions of classic rock albums like Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' and Radiohead's 'OK Computer' met with praise and acclaim. The albums 'Dub Side of the Moon' and 'Radiodread' were given an integral dub-reggae remix by the All Stars, complete with extraordinary sound effects. Vocal support was given by roots legends like Ranking Joe, Frankie Paul, The Meditations, Horace Andy, Toots & The Maytals, Sugar Minott, Israel Vibration and Morgan Heritage.
This is to make clear that the awesome reggae interpretations by the Easy Star All Stars are no joke at all, but the real deal! Dub, roots reggae, ska; the tracks on Radiodread and Dub Side of the Moon contain enough variation for a great reggae evening that will put smiles of recognition on many faces.
The Beat Magazine wrote about the All Stars' show at the Long Beach Ragga Muffins festival: "Performed live, the music not only held up well but absolutely soared. Hearing such familiar songs as "Breathe," "Money." "Us and Them" and "Brain Damage" played onstage inna true reggae style brought a kind of hypnotically giddy feeling. Subdued but clearly awestruck, the crowd hung on every note, every word. The Easy Star crew was a very tough act to follow....."
