A band declining an offer to support the Spice Girls on their tour (and still not regretting it), listing 'We're not the biggest admirerers of the girls' as a reason? Alphabeat definitely deserves some praise and street cred for that. As the Danish band also manages to score one top ten hit after another with their exciting funky 80's hand clapping sound, it's not difficult to see why they're so popular back in their home country. Singles like 'Fascination' and 'Fantastic 6' are pure bliss, mixing Mika-like camp with Justice disco and placing it right next to the B'52's and Wham! in your record collection.
Alphabeat's six members originate from Denmark, but nowadays all of them reside in London. On March 1st their latest album 'The Spell' will be released, which is the successor to their successful debut 'This is Alphabeat' (16 weeks in Dutch charts!). 'Fascination' (4th), '10.000 Nights' and 'Boyfriend' (12th) also did very well in the Netherlands. Two of the forthcoming album's catchy singles, 'The Spell' and 'Hole in my Heart', are doing quite well as well at the moment.
