A couple of years back, a comeback of Turkish psychedelic music was kickstarted. For a number of years now, traditional Turkish music, as played by young musicians, is extremely popular. A big part of that remarkable rise is of course Derya Yıldırım and her band Grup Şimşek.
The intensity of Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek has been making waves all over the world. Her latest album “Yarın Yoksa” was recorded with American musician and producer Leon Michels and it looks like it helped her raise the bar even more. This new album truly brings Derya to a higher level.
“Yarın Yoksa” means “if there was no future”. The album is about personal suffering and the power of the collective. Loss, yearning and hope for change are the central themes.
