Greek musician Σtella creates a mix of Mediterranean folk and psych rock that oozes with the warm air of the sea. This is especially the case on her eccentric, lively debut “The Break” and the more film-like sections of her most recent album “Up and Away”, which has her finding new ways of combining traditional Greek instruments, like the bouzouki, with modern influences.
With the latter album, Σtella reached a milestone: she became the first Greek artist to ever sign a contract with the legendary indie label Sub Pop. On her new album “Adagio” (coming out 4 April through Sub Pop), she does something she hasn’t done before: sing in her mother tongue. “Adagio” was written and recorded in a five-year period with the help of a number of international artists, including !!!’s Rafael Cohen and British songwriter Gabriel Stebbing.
