Texan band Vandoliers play country, folk and bluegrass with a punk attitude. Mandolin, accordion and trumpet never sounded as rock ‘n roll as this.
Their latest album “Life Behind Bars” (2026) is another top-quality release and a gorgeous successor to their previous albums “The Native” (2017), “Forever” (2019) and “The Vandoliers” (2022). Their latest albums is still cow punk, rock and country, but it is slightly more accessible, melodious and refined.
The latest album is somewhat different in terms of content and lyrics, as vocalist Joshua, responsible for most of the lyrics, has transitioned into Jenni Rose in the meantime. As a result, the band chose a more outspoken social-political perspective, especially regarding current-day gender politics in their home country. When Tennessee introduced an anti-drag law in July 2023, all band members decided to perform in women’s clothing in protest. The album starts with the words: “the loudest Americana band you have ever fucking seen.”
The familiar sound of Vandoliers is rock, cow punk with hints of hard rock and raw Texas country, at times served with a large dose of extra energy.
