With their mesmerizing mix of electro, art pop, Afro pop, Saudade and alternative Latin, Ão has turned into one of the most exciting acts in the Belgian music scene. The quartet turned into a boundary-pushing, unique voice that transcends every genre label, similar to what Stromae, Rosalía and C. Tangana did before them. Brenda Corijn, who finds inspiration in her Mozambican-Portuguese roots, sings in both English and Portuguese. Her warm voice blends with the Southern guitar-playing of Siebe Chau, the layered electronics of Jolan Decaestecker, and Bert Peyffers’ eclectic percussion.
Live, Ão offers a compelling experience that mesmerizes audiences all across Europe. Their dynamic sound, which varies from fragile melodies to danceable beats, immerses you in a magical world where you can’t tell what comes from where.
On 13 February 2026, their new album “Malandra” comes out. A malandra is a woman that moves through life with humour, intelligence, playfulness and cunning: not always honest, but always loyal to herself. With “Malandra”, Ão creates an ode to complexity, diversity and the concept of searching in all of its facets. It sounds even more layered, rhythmic, playful, tender and louder than their debut album “Ao Mar”.
