It all started twenty years ago in the wilderness of the Ooijpolder. On the Vlietberg, literally among grazing Galloway cattle, founder Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt laid the foundation of what would turn into a unique notion in the Dutch musical landscape: Galloway Studio.
To celebrate the 20 Year Anniversary, the studio will move to Doornroosje for one night. The line-up is a direct reflection of the eclectic soul of Galloway: from raw rock to free improvisation, which includes acts like Automatic Sam, Black Bottle Riot and Han Bennink & Jelle Roozenburg.
What started in nature, quickly developed into a creative hotspot. Driven by a background in the performing arts and experimental sound, Van Bijlevelt created a space where “standard” doesn’t exist. Galloway Studio became a place for bands who dared to be abrasive, for avant-garde jazz ensembles and for artists looking for an authentic, eccentric sound.
Expect unique sets you won’t hear anywhere else. Automatic Sam will perform their “Sonic Whip” album in full, while Black Bottle Riot will slow down for an exclusive, muggy lo-fi Swamp Session. Legendary drummer Han Bennink is going on an adventure with Jelle Roozenburg in an improv set that’s bound to be explosive.
As Galloway Studio has been moving into the world of electronic production too, they have founded the collective The Furry Cow just for this one night. They will be the glue that holds the evening together, using experimental soundscapes and electronic interventions that turn the night into an organic whole.
Don’t expect a standard concert night, but a trip through 20 years of musical evolution. This is going to be a highly entertaining night full of adventure for all who – just like Galloway – believes in the motto “Sound Different, Be Awesome”.
