Deafheaven brings an overwhelming storm of light and darkness to the stage. Ripping guitars, raging drums and a thin, all-consuming scream all blend together with dream-like shoegaze melodies and expansive post-rock sections.
In a relatively short period, the American band turned into one of the most boundary-pushing names in modern metal. With iconic albums like “Sunbather” and their most recent powerhouse “Lonely People With Power”, they have managed to bring the genre to a higher level. Not just musically, but also in terms of design the band has the courage to deviate from expectations. The pink album cover for “Sunbather” was a massive statement and added to their current reputation. Deafheaven let their music do most of the talking, though. The mix of aggressive black metal with dream-like shoegaze and epic post-rock is described by the media as “blackgaze”. Live, Deafheaven allow their songs to breathe: from tranquil beaty to ecstatic explosions. The band was already a headliner at Soulcrusher; now they are coming back to Nijmegen for their only Dutch club show this tour!
Special guest is Show Me the Body from the US. The eclectic sound of the New York band is firmly rooted in hip hop, punk, noise and hardcore. The loud, seething songs are full of energy. Live shows have a visceral quality to them. Show Me the Body is highly recommended to fans of Death Grips, Ho99o9, At the Drive-In and Fugazi.
