Instrumental cumbia psych band Sonido Gallo Negro from Mexico City is coming to Nijmegen for a tropical hang-out. This colourful nine-piece collective finds inspiration in the roots of psychedelic, tropical music. Live on stage, they use electric guitars, eccentric organs, analogue synths, thermin and flute.
Since 2010, the band has gone on multiple tours through both Europe and the Americas, visiting 20 countries and more than 50 cities. After five studio albums, Sonido Gallo Negro has grown into one of the best-known bands in Mexico City.
The collective brings along the hypnotic visuals of Argentinian master-illustrator Dr. Alderete, with imagery that will stimulate your perception and take you along on the tropical trip that the band initiates during live performances.
Sonido Gallo Negro is highly recommended to fans of styles like cumbia, mambo, boogaloo, surf rock and spaghetti western soundtracks, as well as to fans of bands like Son Rompe Pera, Los Mirlos, Meridian Brothers and Los Pirañas.
