Hailing from South-West Welsh city Carmarthen, the members of Adwaith grew up surrounded by a rich tradition of Welsh rock and a tight scene of experimental and artistically-inclined bands that visited their beloved hotspot “The Parrot”.
Inspired by the range of bands active in Wales during the eighties – Datblygu, Traddodiad Ofnus and Fflaps, to name a few that were leading the new wave of Welsh rock music back then – Adwaith decided to be as uncompressing in their own vision. Adwaith consists of Gwenllian, Hollie and Heledd and they broke through in their own country just before the Pandemic broke out. The won the Welsh Music Prize in 2019 and had a lot of attention on BBC Radio 1 & 6, as well as on NPR and KEXP (a beautiful session recording exists for the latter). New music is on the way and Adwaith will tour Europe this Winter, with Merleyn being one of the stops.
