Alan Sparhawk is obviously (and rightfully) best known for his work with legendary band Low. He’s had quite a number of side-projects over the years however, showing he’s been experimenting with everything from punk and funk to production duties and improvisations. On his new album “White Roses, My God”, he is combining these daring experiments with deep lyrics and propulsive beats.
The band Low has never stuck to a single formula or approach. It was always a collaboration – a dialogue, a romance – between Alan Sparhawk and his wife, Mimi Parker. Parker was co-founder, drummer, co-singer and the irreplicable, passionate heart of the band. She died in 2022 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
There’s no doubt that “White Roses, My God” is born out of mourning and sadness. It is not the only source that influenced this tight, brilliant, provocative and exciting album. “White Roses, My God” is a challenge for Sparhawk and his band: the record was produced and designed by Alan Sparhawk and Nat Harvie, mixed by Nat Harvie and mastered by Heba Kadry. In March, we will see Alan Sparhawk as part of a four-piece band, which includes his son Cyrus on bass.
