Amparo Sánchez was born in Granada and grew into one of the “leading ladies” in both music and activism. As front woman of Amparanoia, but also through her solo career, she brings tons of energy and a mix of styles to the stage.
In 2008, she started her solo career next to Amparanoia. Ever since then, she has demonstrated that she can do a lot more than just partying. In 2010 she released her strong debut album “Tucson-Habana”. The mixture of styles on that record she herself referred to as “Cubana Meets Americana”, as she plays around with both of those musical genres. She also includes elements from blues, calling Billie Holiday and Nina Simone her biggest sources of influence.
To celebrate the 15th birthday of her debut album, she is taking the “Tucson-Habana 15 Years” tour to Merleyn! Note that “solo” isn’t fully solo. Both on the album as on the stage, she is accompanied by other musicians. Tonight, Amparo Sánchez has invited Argentinian musician Raly Barrionuevo on stage, for example. He is a very successful artist in South-America because of his personal interpretation of Argentinian “Chacera” music.
Willy Fuego is also coming along. He was the support act of Manu Chao in Park Brakkenstein back in June.
