Apes of State is an independent folk punk band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Their DIY mentality drives them to cheer up as many people as possible with their energetic music.
The catchy, lyrically funny, mandolin-driven songs capture the full array of human emotions and deals with personal subjects like love, love sickness, student debt, regret and overcoming addiction. Their most recent release, “They Can’t Kill Us All” (2023), is a 7″ split record with the Washington-based band Sister Wife Sex Strike. Just like their latest album “Pipe Dream” from 2022, the American band is very painfully good at capturing the zeitgeist. They offer a message of hope about an ostensibly hopeless future. It is eerily self-aware.
The sound of Apes of State is constantly evolving, yet is deeply rooted in punk rock, folk and bluegrass. They have played basically anywhere from basements, back yards and living rooms to the Warped Tour and Tedx stages. The band will come to Nijmegen to let Merleyn know that folk punk is still alive and kicking!
