Archspire has been exploring extreme metal’s outer edges with their inimitable technical death metal. It’s extremely impressive what these Canadians have achieved on their two latest albums. On Saturday 4 march they are coming to Nijmegen with Psycroptic, Benighted and Entheos as support acts. A metal package to cherish!
It’s breath-taking what Archspire has demonstrated on their latest albums “Relentless Mutation” (2017) and “Bleed the Future” (2021). Their techdeath, inspired by classical music, features dizzying drum work of Spencer Prewett, absurdly fast-paced vocals of Oliver Rae Aleron, and the highly skilled bass and guitar loops. It’s impressive how the band managed to combine catchiness with dynamic, technical sections without losing sight of the song itself. Seldom technical skills have resulted in so many memorable songs. And are they as convincing live as they are in the studio? The answer is a resounding yes! At least, judging by their tight performance back in 2018 in Doornroosje.
On top of that, they also bring a number of fantastic support acts. Both the Australian band Psycroptic and the French Benighted have earned their wings over and over again. While the Australians excel in melody in a technical death metal context, Benighted is a bit more excessive by adding grind metal to the mix. American band Entheos specializes in combining multiple progressive metal genres, which includes slam death. It’s going to be a terrific night for fans of the genre.
