ascendant vierge is a French duo that consists of singer Mathilde Fernandez and producer Paul Seul (also known from the collective Casual Gabberz).
The genre usually associated with the band is gabber opera, and while it sounds very unusual, it really does fit the sound like a glove. The two met when Paul Seul was making a remix of a goth opera that had vocals by Mathilde Fernandez. This led to a very fruitful collaboration: the voice of Fernandez seems to be capable of anything, and the deafening beats of Seul powers the sound like an emotional train.
Using catchy, fluorescent 90s aesthetics, they managed to be a breakout hit in their home country, adding a terrific performance at the Valkhof Festival to boot. The star sign that the band name refers to is usually associated with people who are thoughtful and decent. Well, think again.
