Astrobal is the alter ego of Emmanuel Mario: drummer, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He collaborated with acts like Stereolab, Laetitia Sadier and Pink Shabab. With Astrobal, he explores electronic music. His latest album is like an ode to Library Music, albeit with elements from electronic, pop and classical music.
The audience of Stereolab already had a chance to get acquainted with Astrobal during their recent tour; he was both support act and special guest. He managed to impress in Nijmegen too, so we are happy to welcome him back with a headlining show of his own.
His latest album “L’uomo e la natura” came out earlier this year through German label Karaoke Kalk. “I wanted to make music that was both pop and ambitious in chord progressions, yet also surprising in the build-up”, Astrobal indicates. Inspired by library artists like Alessandro Alessandroni and Bruno Nicolai, as well as by the more cosmic sounds of electronic instrumental music, his aim was to “create a soundtrack that would immediately evoke images of outer space”.
