“Happy-sad guitar pop” and “modern shoegaze classic”: that’s how the media describes the sound and the album of bdrmm (pronounced as ‘bedroom’).
As thrifty as the band are with the vowels in their name, their sound is expansive and rich. The five-piece band fronted by songwriter Ryan Smith is influenced by typical nineties shoegaze bands like My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Mogwai and Slowdive.
The members, hailing from Hull and Leeds, released their debut album “Bedroom” a few years ago and even scored a lockdown hit with it. The album was produced by Alex Greaves (Working Men’s Club, Bo Ningen) and was mastered by Heba Kadry (Slowdive, Deerhunter, Beach House). On this album they demonstrate there’s still plenty of life and relevance to the shoegaze genre.
Their latest album “I Don’t Know” will come out in the Summer of 2023 via Rock Action, the record label of Mogwai. The band members have indicated that the sound of the new album will be ‘richer’ and that styles like ambient, electronics, triphop, dance and slowcore have found their way into it.
