This intimate series of concerts during De Vierdaagsefeesten are an excellent opportunity to truly enjoy live music amidst the chaos of the festivities outside. These take place at an extraordinary location: De Stevenskerk.
The young Scottish singer-songwriter Blair Davie is bound to be a new star, as they managed to touch people’s hearts with their vocals and emotional lyrics. Life has meant a lot to them all throughout his life: at the age of six, they played the guitar and at the age of twelve, they wrote their first songs. Davie found inspiration in a diverse array of artists, including Dermot Kennedy, Dodie and Bon Iver. Styles like folk and pop are combined with personal lyrics about their coming out as queer, as well as about love, loss and broken hearts in particular, but also about the sheer beauty life can offer at times. Their raw, emotional vocals sometimes lead to comparisons with fellow Scot Lewis Capaldi. Davie’s latest EP “First and Last” showcases their talent as a singer and songwriter. Just listen to a track like ‘Wouldn’t Be Right’. There is so much in this song that it was released in two different versions: an up-beat folk arrangement and a powerful piano ballad.
