There are very few bands that can so effectively cross the boundaries between punk and grime like Bob Vylan does. This London duo, consisting of the untameable Bobby and Bobbie Vylan, offers socially critical and razor-sharp lyrics that tackle subjects like racism, police violence, Brexit, the British monarchy, Gaza and other political matters.
Their music is a hybrid mix of the energy of punk and the fervour of grime, perhaps best described as a blend of Dizzee Rascal and Rage Against the Machine. Bob Vylan started off in 2021. After a sold-out UK tour and a full festival summer in their home country in 2022, they broke through internationally in recent years. They have played some of the largest stages at renowned festivals worldwide since then. Bob Vylan was a rousing success at Pinkpop 2025 for example and is coming back to the Netherlands for a number of shows, including one in Doornroosje.
For Doornroosje, live music has a special and inimitable cultural value. It offers engagement and cultural bonds, it emancipates, inspires and defines our identity. We book pop music in the widest sense of the word, protect the quality of the content and encourage innovation and talent development. Bob Vylan is going to play in Doornroosje because it is an act that fits within our programming. The band has been booked for a show in Doornroosje before and played at the Valkhof Festival.
In light of the recent controversy surrounding the band, we would like to add this: Doornroosje has made a careful consideration to book this band; we do not want to be part of cultural censorship. Doornroosje believes in the social important of a free pop culture. Our stages are a place for freedom of speech, artistic expression, and social dialogue. We therefore fully endorse the statement from our industry association, the VNPF.
