Calexico has been making a melting pot of country, western, blues, folk and festive mariachi for years. The Arizona band was named after a town at the border of the United States and Mexico. They’ve spent the largest part of the past three decades to explore the dusty boundaries of the American South-West. This is translated into remarkable, film-like songs that are both as mysterious and gorgeous as the desert landscapes that have inspired them. ‘Desert Noir’ is a description that is a very fitting one for the band’s sound.
Calexico has lent their support to a large number of artists like Neko Case, Iron & Wine, Will Oldham and Nancy Sinatra. They also contributed to the album “I’m Not There”, the soundtrack of the film with the same name about Bob Dylan’s life. One of the most recent projects of Calexico is 2019’s “Years to Burn”, a collaborative album with Iron & Wine. That album was also nominated twice for a Grammy.
