Da Googie & Cara Tivey

Deb Googe (Da Googie) and Cara Tivey are both musicians with an impressive resume. Googe is best known as the bassist of shoegaze pioneers My Bloody Valentine; she also worked together with Thurston Moore, among others. Keyboard player and vocalist Cara Tivey has collaborated for a long time with Billy Bragg; she also played in bands like Everything But the Girl, Blur, Lilac Time and Au Pairs.

These experienced musicians have joined forces and are about to release a new album, “The Golden Thread”, under their own names. First single ‘Dumb’ can be heard below. The song perfectly encapsulates the contrasting elements of the album, with soundscapes that are dense and minimal at the same time. Deb’s bass offers a sense of space and a bedding of dub with a level of claustrophobia and menace, similar to how it sounds on a My Bloody Valentine record. All of these elements are combined dynamically and are bound to result in an exciting concert by this duo in Extrapool.
