Front man Li’l Andy has been referred to as “Montreal’s best country songwriter” and his music as “roots-based Americana”, as he deserves to be. In the past ten years, he has released five albums and toured across the entirety of Canada, the US and Europe. He did not only manage to impress at Kids ‘n’ Billies, but also at Down the Rabbit Hole.
Li’l Andy’s work “The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter (1925-1930)” from 2022 consists of an album, a band and a novel. The 29 tracks on the album were written by Li’l Andy, taking up the moniker of a fictional old-time musician and forgotten legend from the twenties, Hezekiah Procter. Hezekiah is also the protagonist in Li’l Andy’s debut novel, which you can read together with the music if you wish.
So the whole consists of music, history, fiction, biography and recorded performance art. After the songs had been written, Li’l Andy recorded them with Sheesham & Lotus ‘n Son and the old-time band The Ever Lovin’ Jug Band. They took up their fictional roles during the recording sessions, just like they do on stage. This is going to be a treat: vocals, stories, harmonies, violins, banjos, sousaphone and theatre, all packaged as a travelling, Southern revue from long-lost times coming back to life.
