Hiqpy is coming back to Nijmegen to celebrate their album release.
Hiqpy consists of singer Abir Hamam, guitarist Victor ter Veld, bassist Tom Radsma and drummer Kasper de Boer. In 2024 and 2025, the band played over eighty festival shows in The Netherlands and Belgium, which included Pinkpop and our own Valkhof Festival.
Fans had to wait quite a while before Hiqpy made their way to streaming platforms. It wasn’t until 9 January of this year that they released their first music with single ‘Something’. In the same month, Hiqpy was hailed as Volkskrant Talent of 2025. During Eurosonic/Noorderslag, 3VOOR12 called them the #1 act of the festival and they were formally announced as 3FM talent of 2025. Hiqpy was also nominated for a 3FM Award in the Best Newcomer category. “Something” crossed our borders, too: the track made it to BBC Radio and were hailed as “De Belofte” on Belgian radio channel Willy.
In May 2025, second single ‘Red Flag Magician’ came out. It was received very well, with airplay on both Dutch and Belgian radio (which included KINK, 3FM, NPO Radio 2, Veronica and Willy). In June, Hiqpy was listed as a Spotify RADAR artist.
In September, ‘Girl in Red’ came out. As the band indicates, this new single explores the blurred lines between fantasy and reality, where desire and denial meet one another tentatively. Singer Abir Hamam: “Usually, we keep our feelings securely locked away in these fantasy worlds, until we realize that they are just as real there”.
