Inter Arma + Wayfarer
Inter Arma was one of the undisputed highlights at Soulcrusher 2024. The masterful mix of sludge, black, doom and death metal is made for the stage. This time, the Richmond band comes back for a club show in our beloved Purple Room, accompanied by Wayfarer. These Americans mix black metal with Americana in an intriguing, unique manner. An excellent double-bill, if you ask us.
With a reputation for innovation and a strong dedication to artistic integrity, Inter Arma is one of the most impressive and influential names in the contemporary underground metal scene. And they have been for almost two decades! These Americans have demonstrated that they can excel in a very broad playing field with numerous genres like blackened sludge, post and death metal, psych, prog and even southern rock. There are very few bands who can combine these many styles in such a convincing manner. Their live reputation is also rock solid: a true crowd pleaser and one of our personal favourites. Their show at Soulcrusher 2024 was sensational. Time for an encore, this time in our beloved Purple Room.
Wayfarer from Denver is inspired by the fast-paced and adventurous spectrum of heavy music, as well as by gloomy Americana. This unique combination results in an atmospheric and cinematic sound, one which they describe as “Black Metal of the American West”. On their most recent album “American Gothic” from 2023, the band explores the dark soul of their nation. This album, drenched in more Western influences than ever, offers a refreshingly accessible and layered mix of styles. Next to guitars, they give a prominent role to organs, synthesizers and a wide array of percussion instruments.
Carried by penetrating riffs, dark melodies and quality compositions, the whole feels like a musical farewell salute to the American dream. A raw, honest and engaging image of their background and definitely a creative highlight.
