The cold sounds of Kælan Mikla hail from the rough landscape of Iceland. The trio offers avant-garde music that is poetically blended with mesmerizing, dreamy darkwave.
Kælan Mikla was formed after winning a poetry contest in the local library of Reykjavík. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2016. “Undir Köldum Norðurljósum” is their latest one from 2021. The looming heavy bass lines, hypnotizing drums and minimal synths are supplemented with gloomy monologues in their native tongue. Live on stage, this often turns into a true catharsis of pulsating vibes. They have been in Nijmegen before for an impressive show, and they’re back for an encore.
