Mandy, Indiana is named after the city of Gary in the American state of Indiana. Gary is a town with a mostly abandoned steel industry and is symbolic for the downfall of the American industrial sector. It’s a interesting source of inspiration for a band name, one that fits the band’s music perfectly.
Mandy, Indiana is officially a trio, although they play with four musicians on stage. They combine energetic rave beats, ambient, ruthless techno and industrial post punk. Singer Valentine Caulfauld sings and screams her French and sometimes English lyrics out loud. Debut album “I’ve Seen a Way” is a both disorienting and fascinating record. In the studio, the Manchester bad was assisted by Giant Swan’s Robin Stewart and by Dan Fox of Gilla Band. The members of Gilla Band, as well as Daniel Avery, were instant fans, as were many others upon ‘discovering’ their first album.
