Scottish post rock band Mogwai has been around for over thirty years and is one of the founders of the British underground post rock scene. The band has been innovative passionately for all those years and they show no signs of slowing down. Band member Barry describes it as follows: “We have a repressed Calvinist approach to making music. We are just a bunch of boys playing music in a room. We never talk about meaning.” Mogwai’s music is striking particularly because of the unique structure of their compositions, which consist of dreamy soundscapes that are interrupted by violent guitar explosions.

Mogwai was founded in 1995 in Glasgow and consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar and vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass), and Martin Bulloch (drums). Since their debut album “Young Team” came out in 1997, the band has balanced out their powerful and minimalist compositions with new instruments and technologies. Throughout the years, Mogwai had built up an impressive body of work that earns them a lot of respect with fellow musicians. Their prolific nature also brings a lot of joy to both their loyal fans as to people who have discovered the band only recently.

The Scots have performed live on stage a lot over the years and released eleven studio albums. Their previous album from 2021, “As the Love Continues”, was both a commercial and critical hit. The album made it to the first place in the British album charts and was nominated for a Mercury Prize. It was also hailed as Scottish album of the year.

Their latest album “The Bad Fire” is once again an engaging, instrumental experience which offers the audience the freedom to define their own meaning. Whether it brings you joy or sadness, Mogwai always offers a mystical soundtrack for the movie in your head. They continue to push forward without losing their essence, which makes their work timeless.
