Senegal collective Orchestra Baobab creates timeless, warm-blooded melodies that bring together Afro-Cuban rhythms and African music. The band has earned a special place in the history of African music and has been active for over fifty years!
In 1970, a night club opened up in Dakar with the name ‘Baobab Club’. The night club was named after the national symbol of Senegal: the baobab. The house band that played there was named after the night club: Orchestra Baobab. Ever since then, this group has been West-Africa’s most iconic dance band. Their new work sounds familiar and the well-established sound that made the band legendary is clearly still present. Despite all this, the band manages to make it sound more urgent and fresher than ever due to spirited twists and energetic additions. because of this special milestone, their 2002 reunion album “Specialist in All Styles” will be reissued for the first time on vinyl.
