On Thursday 1 August and Friday 2 August, the American band Pixies is coming back to Nijmegen for two concerts in Openluchttheater De Goffert.

Their albums “Bossanova” and “Trompe le Monde” will be featured during these two shows, as well as other classics from their catalogue. Pixies caused quite a stir in the late eighties. Led by singer Black Francis, they released a number of highly successful albums, including “Surfer Rosa” and the much-praised “Doolittle”. The songs ‘Debaser’, ‘Monkey Gone to Heaven’, ‘Where Is My Mind’ and ‘Here Comes Your Man’ are absolute classics in the alternative scene.

The sound of the Boston band influenced tons of other bands, including those of Nirvana, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. Their popularity kept growing even after they split up in 1993, eventually leading to their reunion in 2004, sold-out world tours and four more albums: “Indie Cindy” (2014), “Head Carrier” (2016), “Beneath the Eyrie” (2019) and “Doggerel” (2022). In 2012, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band. The remaining members (Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering) decided to continue and released their first studio album in over 20 years, “Indie Cindy”, in 2014. After working with a number of bass players, since 2016 they have been joined by Paz Lenchantin on stage. The quartet is known for their strong live performances. Their sets often consist of over 30 songs, while they don’t plan their setlists nor do they do any soundchecks.
