Canadian post punk band Preoccupations (once known as Viet Cong) had to change their name a few years back to continue with what they were good at: extensive touring and bringing down the stage at venues and festivals with intense live shows.
Preoccupations was founded under the name of Viet Cong in 2012 in Calgary. The group consists of two former members of Canadian rock band Women, singer/bassist Matt Flegel and drummer Mike Wallace. The two were joined by guitarists Scott Munro and Daniel Christiansen. Preoccupations writes dark music for dark times. They have done so from the start, but unfortunately the times have adapted to the dark nature of their music by now. The gloomy lyrics of Matt Flegel on their most recent album “Arrangements” offer little solace or distraction. Recommended to fans of bands like Protomartyr, Ought, Gilla Band, METZ, Crack Cloud and Shame.
