Ron Gallo can effortlessly switch from garage and fuzz to laidback jazz, take a detour from freaky pop to post-punk, and then bring it back home again to filthy, catchy rock music. The American artist is coming to Merleyn in May!

Ron Gallo’s new album “Foreground Music” is set to come out in the Spring of 2023 through the label Kill Rock Stars. It was produced by Ron Gallo himself and Jerry Bernhardt; mastering was done by Ryan Schwabe (Pussy Riot, Princess Nokia, Tierra Whack).

On his latest album, Gallo focuses his ire on several targets: project developers that change neighbourhoods into anonymous Airbnb ads, the kind of ‘corporate overlords’ that decide what to charge for music, and extremists that are determined to bring about an apocalypse of racial and societal destruction. He confronts the bad guys of society and tries to help those being crushed by these bad faith actors by helping them laugh about the absurdity of it all.

Most of all, Gallo emphasizes responsibility as a person in an era of fear, apathy instead of action, gentrification, narcissism, shopping therapy, xenophobia, fear for future generations, right-wing extremists, capitalism, climate change and the experiences of a addicted lover.

Despite the dark themes and chaos, Gallo still has a cheery charm on the album that comes from his genuine love for humanity and the wish to protect the things we admire. At the end of the album, Gallo comes to a devastating revelation: “The world is completely fucked but the universe is inside you.”

How can you live in this decade and not be worried? Gallo has a terrific live reputation and has shared the stage with acts like Spoon, Parquet Courts, Ty Segall, The Black Angels, Osees, Wilco and Courtney Barnett.
