Steve von Till
On his latest work “Alone in a World of Wounds”, Steve von Till of Neurosis fame is doing something completely different. It is an album of engaging, gothic-inspired America, tripped-out drones, gorgeous, weathered melodies and slowly unfolding cello arrangements.
Originally inspired by the harmonic resonance of piano and synths and his long-time love for ambient music, Von Till offers a sound on “Alone in a World of Wounds” that he has never created before. The record seeks a deeper connection, reflecting on life with the sadness of our collective divorce from the natural world, putting trust in an instinctive feeling to get closer to the primal creative state of self. These aspects are all essential for Von Till’s creative process. And although “Alone in a World of Wounds” steers clear from the aggression of Neurosis, the energy of punk rock and DIY ethics are still important sources of inspiration. This is highly recommended to fans of Nick Cave, Talk Talk, PJ Harvey, Low, Mark Lanegan and Brian Eno.
