The Academic
Stadium-worthy choruses, edgy guitars and up-beat lyrics: The Academic manages to turn every song into an indie hit. The band is especially influenced by rock from the 2000s and have often been compared to The Strokes. They also look upon artists like Talking Heads, New Order and Elvis Costello as important sources of inspiration. The Academic have played many festivals in recent years and have supported acts like Twenty One Pilots, The Strokes and Louis Tomlinson in recent years.
The Irish rock band The Academic broke through in 2017 in their home country with the song ‘Bear Claws’, which was partly a success because of the live music video in which the band applies live looping. The Academic consists of four Irish friends: Craig, Dean and the brothers Matt and Stephen. In 2018, their debut album “Tales From the Backseat” made it to the top of the Irish Album Charts. In recent years, they have released a number of singles that have been streamed millions of times since then. In 2023, they released their second album called “Sitting Pretty”.
