The Chills are a rock band from Dunedin, New Zealand that released a number of highly influential albums in the eighties and nineties.
The iconic band, fronted by singer and composer Martin Phillipps, has had its ups and downs in the past thirty years. The group has had to deal with numerous line-up changes, drug addictions and other health-related interferences; as a result, the band went dormant for long stretches of time. Martin Phillipps uses a similar work ethic as Mark E. Smith of The Fall did, with many different line-ups. Not only born out of necessity, but also to fuel his creativity and enhance the music.
The Chills have released relatively few albums, but each one of them is highly regarded. The band is in Europe for the Primavera festival, and they do an extra stop in Nijmegen for a show.
