British band The Cool Greenhouse creates their own blend of post-punk with witty bite. The mesmerizing, repetitive riffs are the perfect vessel for the sharp, cynical lyrics of front man Tom Greenhouse, who manages to use humour as a brilliant provocative device. Their new single ‘Get Unjaded’ just came out and is a great first taste of the upcoming album “Sod’s Toastie”.
After making waves in 2019 through the underground DIY scene, the London band released a number of seven inches and EPs in the following years. While 2020 wasn’t a good year for most, it did bring the band’s long-awaited, self-titled debut album on Melodic Records. This album is full of tales of everyday life and on it they mix their lo-fi home recordings with a newly developed, fuller sound. They managed to bring their typical style to new heights in the process. The best way to describe their sound is as chaotic and repetitive, although in the best sense of the words.
Next month the new album “Sod’s Toastie” will come out. On it, Tom Greenhouse and his undaunted band will be more resolved and self-assured than ever. Still present are Greenhouse’s surrealistic short stories, the witty one-liners and the many cultural references.
