It has been thirty years since Mandylion has come out. This is a good reason for The Gathering to bring this successful album back to the live stage, in the original line-up even that includes Anneke van Giersbergen! They will do so exclusively in Doornroosje and not just once, but twice.
Mandylion is the third album of The Gathering and is seen as a milestone release within the world of symphonic and progressive metal. By adding singer Anneke van Giersbergen, the band had gotten a unique sound of their own. It is a sound in which heavy riffs, melodic keys and powerful, mesmerizing vocals come together to a unique whole. The album, released in 1995, contains classics like ‘Strange Machines’ and “Leaves’ and marked a new era for the band. It is a masterpiece that has been massively influential within the genre.
Original members Frank Boeijen, Hugo Prinsen Geerlings, Anneke van Giersbergen, Jelmer Wiersma, Hans and René Rutten have joined forced to bring back this iconic work in a special live setting. Expect all of the songs of Mandylion and a couple more from the Anneke era.
