The Necks
The Necks is an Australian trio that have gained worldwide a cult status over the past 35 years. Their sound touches upon multiple facets: from minimalism and ambient to jazz and modern electronics. Each set of The Necks is a further discovery into sound, based on the interaction between piano, bass and percussion. They stand for endless fascination and mesmerizing improvisations on piano, double-bass and drums.
In the late eighties, the three jazz musicians of The Necks were looking for an alternative to the busy, notes-heavy sound and solos of their contemporaries. The rhythm section on the album “In a Silent Way” by Miles Davis was an important source of influence for band’s sound. They have released an impressive number of studio and live albums in their 35-year long career so far, all with the same line-up. They have also collaborated with Swans and Underworld in the past.
