Despite having been around for over 30 years, The Notwist is still alive and relevant. Time and time again the beloved German band manages to reinvent themselves and look for adventure. Styles like rock, electronics and even jazz and hip hop pop up constantly.
The brothers Markus and Micha Archer, Cico Beck and befriended band members released the album “Vertigo Days” in 2021 which managed to approach the magic of breakthrough album “Neon Golden” from 2002: melancholy pop music, rattling electronics and mesmerizing kraut rock are in the mix, further enhanced by contributions from musicians like Angel Bat Dawid and Juana Molina.
“We wish to turn the concept of the band into a question, and open ourselves up to other voices and ideas, as well as other languages and identities”, Markus said about the collaborations. The list of contributions is impressive. The openness that defines the new album is something they bring with them live on stage as well. One song bleeds into another, so their concerts turn into one overwhelming and engaging soundscape, with their lyrics turning into one extended poem.
