During his first world tour in 2018, The White Buffalo was hailed as a revelation within genres like roots, country, folk and blues rock. He is still on the rise however, as in terms of both output and live shows he is doing very well.
Behind The White Buffalo is the bearded musician, Jake Smith. The Oregon-born and South-Carolina-raised musician was inspired as a child by both the traditional country of George Jones and the punk rock of Bad Religion.
The American has a beautiful baritone that has resulted in comparisons to Eddie Vedder and Bruce Springsteen. His songs have featured on popular TV shows like “Californication” and “Sons of Anarchy”.
His 2022 album “Year of the Dark Horse” confirmed once again that The White Buffalo cannot be captured in a single genre. “With this album I wanted something outside of what I’ve ever done. I wanted to open up”, Smith said. “Do something dangerous. I’m hard to put into a singular genre as it is but now, I really wanted to take away any kind of preconception or pigeon-holing.”
