Urban Heat from Austin, Texas combines post-punk and synth-wave with a thick electronic sound. Inspired by bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure, the trio adds a dose of melancholy to their characteristic dark beats.
Urban Heat is the project of multi-instrumentalist and singer Jonathan Horstmann. In 2019, he invited Kevin Naquin and Paxel Foley to help perform his creative analogue sound design ideas live on stage. The result is a fusion of dark eighties-inspired music with modern accents. Backed by dark, industrial gothic beats, Horstmann uses his deep baritone voice to share contemplations about existence and romance. The album “Wellness” from 2022 and “The Tower” from 2024 are full of these. Songs like the stadium anthem ‘Seven Safe Places’ and the layered ‘Have You Ever?’ also showcase the musical diversity of the band. Urban Heat is also known for their passionate live performances. On 23 May, they will prove this in Merleyn.
