Irish band Villagers had their breakthrough in 2010 with their well-received debut album “Becoming a Jackal”. The fragile voice of front man Conor O’Brien and his resolute, sometimes poetic lyrics, are a perfect match to the suspenseful sound of the band. The result is a layered, soulful sound, that works both acoustically and in more electronic songs.
In 2021 the fifth Villagers studio album came out, “Fever Dreams”. The goal of this album: escape reality for the duration of ten songs. The album oozes with escapism. It effortlessly takes you from whatever mindset you’re in and puts you in a completely different one. The world of “Fever Dreams” is one of euphoria and absurd daydreams, with songs that are both cryptic and crystal clear. The first two singles are great introductions to the album in full.
