WITCH, with J Mascis in its line-up, is known for its gritty and psychedelic fuzz sound. The American band is capable of bringing together doom, garage rock, punk and metal in a fantastic manner.
WITCH is the result of an unlikely pairing of two seemingly contradictory influences. Love for both Black Sabbath and Mastodon made J Mascis (known from Dinosaur Jr.) and Dave Sweetapple decide to start a new side-project. This resulted in a self-titled debut album that made waves on impact. Classic rock structures are thrown in a blender, with a heavy and gritty sound as a result. Opening track “Seer” has become a true cult hit with millions of streams. The songs on their second album “Paralyzed” from 2008 are even edgier and more energetic. These are songs that fans of Black Sabbath, Dinosaur Jr, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard can all enjoy.
The band went on hiatus after these two albums. Up until now that is, as after 15 years of radio silence, the band is about to release a third album. This is also a reason to strike out on tour again, making us extremely curious to what this will bring.
