Antwerp-based rapper Yong Yello is the alter ego of rapper and producer Yello Staelens. While he was once a member of the legendary hip-hop collective Eigen Makelij, he is now hailed as the new crown prince of the Antwerp song.
Yong Yello grew up listening to 90s Hip-hop, an influence still deeply rooted in his music. Combine that with the sounds of 60s and 70s soul, funk, and film scores, and you get a crowd chanting his name as if he had single-handedly won the World Cup.
It all began four years ago when Yong Yello delivered an instant classic with “Marcel & Het magnetisme van de goot”. His debut album not only achieved gold status but also led to sold-out venues and appearances at major festivals like Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, and the Lokerse Feesten. He scored hits with tracks such as ‘Als ge slaapt’, ‘Cirkels’, ‘Waanzin’, and ‘Luchtkasteel’, thereby securing a place in the collective consciousness.
The second part of the album, “Bennie & De banaliteit van ons bestaan”, is set for release on September 11.
