Algiers touches upon more genres than you can count. In a steamy, organic brew the band incorporates everything ranging from post-punk, psychedelic rock, industrial, punk, electronic music, gospel, soul and blues.
Their self-titled debut from 2015 came out at the renowned Matador Records label, followed by a tour supporting label mates Interpol (back then still operating as a trio). Before releasing their new album “The Underside of Power” the band added another member to its ranks. Algiers is known for their socially critical and political points of view, which they use as themes in their songs. Trump’s presidency and the police incident in Cleveland (which cost twelve year old Tamir Rice his life) are among the subjects they deal with in their lyrics.
