Angel Bat Dawid

Angel Bat Dawid is one of the most striking newcomers in the jazz, avant-garde and improv scene in Chicago. She made her European live debut at the Rewire Festival in The Hague. This time she and her band tour Europe for the second time, also performing in Nijmegen.

Angel grew up in a strict Christian family and has been playing clarinet since childhood. After she graduated she decided to become a full-time musician, playing and touring with a large number of groups. With her six-piece band she performs songs of her debut album “The Oracle” which features an engaging mix of jazz, funk and Zappa-like improvisation.

“The Oracle” is by far one of the most pleasantly eccentric jazz albums of the year. The album is a kind of tribute to her hometown of Chicago and spirituality in black music. Angel Bat Dawid offers a musical experience drenched in post-apocalyptic soundscapes that are reminiscent of artists like Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders.
