Singer Avi Kaplan spends most of his time hidden deep in a forest close to Nashville, Tennessee. After a tumultuous time with the world-renowned acapella group Pentatonix in Los Angeles, he has been working on his solo material there since 2017. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been releasing one single after another and not without success. Just listen to the soulful ‘Change on the Rise’ with the deep vocals of Kaplan. Or take the more folk-like ‘Aberdeen’ for example, which is reminiscent of the works of Fleet Foxes.
After having toured extensively with his band Pentatonix, Avi Kaplan was exhausted – both physically and artistically. His solo project is more nuanced, richer and more sensitive. “I’ve basically started writing the music that was in my heart all along”, as he describes it himself. “It’s basically the same music I’ve always been writing. I just never had a chance to let anyone hear it.” Kaplan rediscovered his musical roots and delved even deeper into folk. Recommended to fans of The Tallest Man on Earth, Fleet Foxes and Ben Howard.
