Ben Caplan is a true live performer. The bearded Canadian and his ragged voice could turn the sweetest songs into something comical. He can easily switch from a dark, gloomy song to a disarmingly light-hearted one with a big smile on his face.
Caplan’s typical style is rooted in the Eastern European klezmer tradition, using a similar narrative style that’s reminiscent of Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart.
Caplan’s first record came out in 2011, which means he’s been travelling the world for over 10 years now for live performances. In 2021 the album “Recollection” came out, which is a retrospective collection of stripped down and reinterpreted versions of his songs.
