Curtis Cross, also known as Black Milk, and his Nat Turner Band are able to create live hip hop drenched in grooves, soul and jazz. Black Milk is a producer and MC from Detroit. Influenced by A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, J Dilla, Pete Rock and The Roots he makes music that encapsulates the music history of Detroit: raw, heavy and soulful all at once. He has collaborated in the past with artists like J. Dilla, Guilty Simpson, Royce da 5’9″ and he has been touring his impressive live show featuring the Nat Turner band for years.
There are very few artists in the hip hop scene who excel both at MC’ing and producing, but Black Milk is definitely one of them. The members of Slum Village also realized this after hearing a few of his productions, deciding almost immediately to record a number of songs together with the artiest. This resulted in a one-time opportunity to collaborate with J. Dilla, one of the most progressive producers ever in Detroit.
This summer he released his seventh album called “Fever“. On the album he worked together with musicians like Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave (D’Angelo, Adele) and Daru Jones (Jack White), while he received some vocal support from Dwele, Arron ‘Ab’ Abernathy and Sudie.
Highly recommended to fans of Oddisee, J. Dilla, Talib Kweli, Slum Village but also bands like The Roots, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.
