Omara ‘Bombino’ Moctar is one of the most successful guitarists and musicians from the Sahara and Sahel reguion. The music of Bombino is drenched in rock, psych and a dose of energy. The extended songs and improvisations unite the best of Jimi Hendrix and John Lee Hooker, mixed with raw desert blues. In 2013 the band had a breakthrough with their album “Nomad”, an album that was produced by Black Keys chief Dan Auerbach. French magazine Les Inrocktupibles described Bombino as follows: “The singer and guitarist Bombino emerges from the dunes of the Sahara with his desert folk dancing in the flames. Absolutely magical.”
Bombino is a Toeareg, but compared to, for example, Tinariwen his music is a lot heavier and more energetic. During his live shows Bombino and his fellow musicians extend their album tracks to long, hypnotizing jams, which easily manage to captivate audiences all over the world.
