Frankie and the Witch Fingers

One of the coolest psych rock groups in recent years is called Frankie and the Witch Fingers. These hard-working group from Los Angeles released seven full length albums in no-time, avoiding cliches in the process.
The typical exotic style with which these Americans churn out album after album and blow away their audience during live performances is remarkable.
On 2017’s “Brain Telephone”, there’s a heavy mix of sixties surf pop, psychedelia and punk. On their fifth album “ZAM” from 2019, they cut loose on full cylinders. “ZAM” isn’t just funky, but explosive as well: psychedelia, acid rock, fuzzy garage rock and sixties surf of the highest calibre. Their latest, “Data Doom”, came out in 2023 is once again both adventurous and primitive-sounding. It once again includes terrific slices of punk rock, fuzz and garage rock that’s sharp, fierce and to the point.
Frankie and the Witch Fingers sounds like the crazy four-headed nephew of The Sonics after a mushroom trip, and they sound as if they’re time travelling between every decade of the past 60 years. Their befriended label mates Osees are never far away musically.
